Morristown introduces cannabis licensing ordinance; council to refine applicant criteria

The Town Council introduced ordinance O-23-2024 on Aug. 6 to amend the municipal code to establish cannabis licensing and business regulations. Council members said the ordinance was developed by a cannabis committee and agreed to reconvene a subcommittee to finalize applicant criteria before the public hearing.
A council member urged additional review of hemp and THC-level language and asked that the cannabis advisory board and an extended committee meet to settle criteria for the request for applications. One council member observed that the mayor’s wife had served on the original committee and asked that an additional appointee be added to the review panel; the mayor said he would make subcommittee appointments later and reach out to committee members.
The ordinance was introduced by title and will be considered further following a public hearing scheduled Sept. 10.
