Council denies private July 4 park permit; approves Caribbean picnic application

At its June 25 meeting the Morristown Town Council voted not to approve a July 4 facility-use permit after administration reported the application arrived late and the attached flyer advertised attractions not included in the application.

Facilities staff told the council the applicant (identified in the record as Keandra/Keandra Joseph or similar spellings) submitted paperwork less than 30 days before the event and that social-media flyers showed activities (a mechanical bull, bouncy house, a raffle and a celebrity chef/Hibachi setup) that were not included in the town application and raised safety and insurance concerns. Administration recommended denial or approval with strict conditions (end before dark, no fireworks, no alcohol, no unpermitted equipment) and noted police requested the event be cleared well before dark.

Council debated whether to approve with conditions; after roll call the conditioned approval motion failed and the July 4 application was not approved.

Separately, the council considered an application from "New Fair Future" for a Caribbean picnic on July 20 beginning at 11 a.m. That application was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.

The meeting record shows the administration will enforce any permit limitations through the police department and that applicants for events of this type are generally expected to be nonprofit organizations or to secure a one-time exception with clear conditions and required insurance.
