Morristown council adopts two pay ordinances, backs county trail grant; several routine resolutions approved

The Town of Morristown council voted July 9 to adopt two compensation ordinances and approved a package of resolutions, including support for a county trail construction grant.

Ordinance O-20-2024, which amends compensation for management and nonunion positions in Morristown’s municipal code, was adopted after a roll-call vote in which the listed council members recorded 'Yes.' Council then adopted Ordinance O-21-2024, amending compensation for the mayor, council members and council president. Both ordinances were presented for adoption at the meeting; officials recorded the affirmative votes and declared the measures adopted.

Council also moved to adopt a block of resolutions (R-123 through R-129) and separately considered Resolution R-130-2024, described as a resolution of support authorizing a 2024 Morris County Trail Construction Grant application. Sponsors said the R-130 application covers lower-portion trail work at Burman Park; council members clarified that adopting the support resolution does not preclude future trail projects elsewhere. The resolution passed by recorded affirmative vote.

Taken together, the votes represented routine municipal business: personnel compensation updates and administrative support for grant applications. Additional items on the agenda included the introduction of Ordinance O-22-2024 (an amendment to inspection/report fees) for further consideration following a public hearing on Aug. 10.

Next steps: Ordinance O-22-2024 will proceed to the Western panel/public hearing on Aug. 10 for additional consideration; adopted ordinances will be codified and the grant-application process will proceed per administrative instructions.
