Council approves pipeline, water/wastewater master plan update and annual sidewalk contract

Fredericksburg — The City Council approved a series of infrastructure items aimed at upkeep and planning for the city’s utilities and pedestrian network.
Public Works Director Chris Kanase described a multi-year effort to replace undersized water and sewer mains in older parts of town and presented a contract with JL Pipeline not to exceed $600,000 to continue work including Franklin Street and areas near the middle school. Kanase said the project is budgeted and will improve fire protection and reduce leaks.
Council also approved an update to the water/wastewater master plan to refresh hydraulic models and identify near‑ and long‑term projects for distribution, collection, tanks and pump stations; staff noted the update will inform future rate analysis and impact fee work.
Finally, council approved the annual sidewalk improvement contract with Myers Concrete for $150,000 and a prioritized list of projects that includes Cross Mountain, Friendship Lane/West Main connections, West Austin Street infill, high‑school tennis court access, East Main phased work near Walmart (utilizing escrow funds) and additional West Live Oak segments. Staff said any leftover funds will be used for smaller repairs around town.
All items were presented as budgeted and passed on motions from council members.
