The Fredericksburg Historic Review Board on Dec. 10 conditionally approved rerating and demolition of the property in application COA 2024-089701 (North Lanus) but required an approved building proposal before a demolition permit may be issued.
Applicant representatives told the board the structure is extensively degraded by termite damage, water infiltration and foundation failure and presented structural and foundation reports and an asbestos/mold survey documenting hazardous conditions. Architect Whitney and contractor Richard Laughlin said repair would require nearly complete reconstruction and could leave an unsafe or unusable shell.
