Del City Council used part of its meeting to spotlight community events and to approve support for youth programming.
During public comment, Ron McCall described a Shop With A Cop fundraiser scheduled for the 17th, with pies and coupon sheets for sale. "A 100% of the sales of these and 100% sales of the pies all go to Shop With A Cop," McCall said, and he noted last year the program helped about 24 children. The council and event organizers encouraged community participation.
The chamber's Joshua Schultz reported a successful Hispanic Festival at Raytramp Park and listed upcoming events including a coffee with state Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborne and a family fishing clinic. Schultz said the city’s Hispanic population has grown to about 15 percent, up from roughly 6–7 percent a decade ago.
As part of the Dining in Del City program, marketing specialist Karina Pulver presented Taste of Soul (4605 SE 29th) as the October recipient. The business owners described operating for roughly 17 years and brought samples for council members; the council recessed briefly so members could partake.
Council also approved a $3,800 donation to DelQuest, a long‑running chamber program that pairs high‑school juniors with mentors and provides leadership training. Joshua Schultz explained how the city funds would be used: "The $3,800 that the city gives goes to paying for the dinner... trophies... shirts... and hotels for the kids," and he invited council to attend the Nov. 21 leadership luncheon at the Del City Community Center. The motion to approve the donation passed unanimously.
Separately, the council approved a $500 donation to Del City American Legion Post 73 to cosponsor a Veterans Day luncheon.
