Public Works and city staff delivered operational updates at the July 15 Del City meeting.
The AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) project is reported as 98% complete. Installation crews have finished work and remaining tasks focus on meters the city must replace directly because those meters need repair before being turned over. Staff said the city invoiced MuniWorks for surplus meters (first invoice $13,601, with an additional invoice of $379 forthcoming).
Staff explained the AMI system will allow the city to set billing cycles and pull reads remotely, which prompted a staff commitment to propose changes to the billing cycle to reduce customer confusion and shorten turnaround times; city staff said they will provide detailed rollout plans and be available to assist residents during the transition.
Public Works also reported that the replacement pump motor for Well 23 (approved at approximately $39,000) has been installed and crews are flushing the well; residents may see temporary surface water during flushing. Bulk‑trash service timelines are currently averaging six business days (target five), and the department is developing a scheduling and ticket system for street work to create consistent timelines and better evaluate staffing needs after a 30/60/90 day pilot.
Council and staff discussed school‑zone striping and other street safety improvements; staff will follow up with specifics and budget implications. No new budget appropriations were made at the meeting.
