Warr Acres council appoints Aida Almasawi to fill Ward 3 seat

The Warr Acres City Council voted Oct. 15 to appoint Aida Almasawi to the vacant Ward 3 council seat.

Almasawi told the council she has lived in Warr Acres about 12 years and is retired, citing prior work as a Department of Defense contractor and degrees in mechanical engineering. After a motion to appoint and a roll‑call vote, council members welcomed Almasawi and administered the oath of office. She was sworn in as councilwoman for Ward 3 and as a trustee of the city’s Public Works Authority and Economic Development Authority.

Council discussion before the vote addressed the length of the appointment and the next municipal election. City staff clarified the appointment will last until voters fill the seat in the next regular municipal election, with the appointed term expiring in 2026 or at the next filing period, consistent with the city’s rules for midterm vacancies.
