Planning commission recommends City Council approve special-use permit for 'Good Sense Bad Habits' tattoo shop

The Warr Acres Planning Commission voted Oct. 8 to recommend that the City Council approve a special-use permit for a tattoo and piercing establishment at 5824 Northwest 63rd Street, proposed to be named Good Sense Bad Habits.

Applicant Tian Atchison, a licensed tattoo artist since 2006, told the commission he previously owned and sold a tattoo shop and is restarting his business in Warr Acres. "It's pretty much the brink of my livelihood," Atchison said, and described the proposed space as roughly 1,600 square feet with three workstations and one additional booth for guest artists.

Atchison said operations would be primarily by appointment with limited walk-ins, and proposed hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 10 p.m., with Sundays and Mondays closed. Staff noted the space is in a C-3 neighborhood shopping district and recommended approval under the code provision cited in the record. A public commenter asked a clarifying question about the applicant’s name spelling; Atchison confirmed the pronunciation and spelling for the minutes.

After opening and then closing the public hearing with no further public opposition, the commission voted to recommend the special-use permit to the City Council. Roll-call votes recorded yes votes from members identified in the record as Corey, Downs, Fentry, Becker and Johnson. Staff reminded applicants that the commission’s action is advisory and that the City Council will make the final decision at its meeting next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
