The Chickasha City Council approved a rehabilitation contract with Sunbelt Pools for the municipal swimming pool, adopting an amendment to omit two hydrants priced at $4,000 apiece.
Parks staff described the bid as a substantial back-of-house rehabilitation that will replace piping and technical systems but leave the visible shell, diving boards and public bathrooms intact. Staff said the chosen scope is intended to extend the pool’s operational life by an estimated 10–15 years. By contrast, a full rebuild would cost many millions and could extend life by decades.
Councilors questioned specific bid alternates and whether the 'not to exceed' figure should be adjusted to reflect removal of the hydrant alternate. One councilor moved to omit the two hydrants from the awarded work. That amendment was seconded and approved; Burrows recorded an abstention during the final roll call.
The amended award remains a capital investment intended to limit near-term risk of failure and reduce daily water loss the staff reported during a pressure test that identified multiple leaks. Staff said the rehab addresses piping and mechanical systems rather than visible amenities.
Next steps: contract will proceed with the amended scope and staff will present payment requests when invoices are submitted.
