Chickasha approves two fire-truck purchases totaling about $3.14 million

The Chickasha City Council approved two apparatus procurements to upgrade the Chickasha Fire Department’s fleet: a 100-foot aerial truck (bid COC-2402) for approximately $2,126,805 and an engine pumper truck (bid COC-2403) for about $1,016,797.
City staff and the apparatus committee recommended the Sutphen/Heartland bids, citing safety enhancements and serviceability. Staff said the 100-foot unit includes a platform that allows personnel to operate from a protected enclosed platform rather than climbing a straight ladder, improving safety and allowing single-person operation of certain functions. The recommended vendor also included a $25,000 equipment package to outfit each truck with hoses, nozzles and other necessary gear, and offered a five-year service plan (versus a seven-year plan from an alternative bidder).
Delivery for both vehicles was estimated at 34–38 months. Council discussed financing and staff said the city plans to budget roughly $300,000 per year as set-asides to build a down payment over the next two to three budget cycles so the city will have funds available when delivery occurs.
Council members thanked the fire department, the apparatus committee and volunteers who inspected equipment and visited other departments to evaluate apparatus. The motions to award both bids were approved by roll call.
