Perry council roundup: sidewalks grant, in‑house street test, Ameri Inn demolition and Chamber contract tweak

Sidewalks: City Manager Nate reported the city received approval for a 7th Street sidewalk grant and staff will interview four firms on Oct. 22 to select engineering services. Staff said the grant funding covered construction to Ivanhoe but exhausted available grant funds for extending to Locust; council discussed combining nearby projects in one engineering procurement.
Streets: Nate also described a plan to practice in‑house street resurfacing on 5th Street (between Odo and Noble), renting the final asphalt layer machine for about two days and using an outside operator to train city crews. The trial aims to build capacity to perform some street work internally.
Ameri Inn demolition: Staff and the developer reported heavy equipment on site and partial structure removal; the contractor expects cleanup to be complete within roughly one week. Reimbursement for eligible demolition work will be processed after completion and required documentation (certificate of occupancy or similar) is provided.
Chamber contract: Council approved a first amendment to the Perry Chamber of Commerce tourism development contract to rename Springfest to the Springfest Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show and to change reporting cadence from quarterly to twice annually after events; council encouraged quarterly reporting if the Chamber requests additional funding in the future.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with firm interviews for the sidewalk project, schedule the in‑house paving trial and follow up on Ameri Inn cleanup/reimbursement.
