Owosso mayor proclaims Giving Tuesday; local nonprofits outline fundraising and outreach plans

OWOSSO, Mich. — Mayor Robert J. Tice Jr. read a proclamation on Dec. 2 declaring Dec. 3, 2024 as Giving Tuesday — Raise Up Shiawassee Day — highlighting 18 local nonprofit participants and encouraging residents to support community philanthropy.
Kim Renwick of the Shiawassee Community Foundation and representatives from area nonprofits described plans for the day. Amora Archer, who identified herself as CEO of the Shiawassee Family YMCA, said the YMCA will raise funds to send children to camp and operate a mobile food pantry expected to feed more than 300 households. "We are raising funds to help send kids...and we are also going to feed over 300 households in the county through a mobile food pantry tomorrow afternoon," she said.
Crystal McCoy of Voices for Children said Raise Up Shiawassee funds will support a prevention program and efforts in schools. Paulette Darling (Events For Change) described a youth entrepreneur fundraiser; Yvette Collard (Cook Family Foundation) said the foundation helps coordinate the group and noted a board match for early donors. Kathleen Hake said the Great Start Shiawassee Preschool Scholarship Foundation is raising funds to support three‑year‑olds who currently lack state-funded preschool slots.
Mayor Tice presented the proclamation to local leaders and invited nonprofits to display it as they continue outreach and fundraising for the holiday season.
