Owosso council issues proclamation honoring Susan J. Ocica’s years of service

The proclamation, read by the mayor, noted that Ocica first served on council from 2001 to 2005 and was reelected in 2016, approaching the end of a term-limited tenure. It credited her with leadership on the Downtown Development Authority, the local historical commission, the Local Development Finance Authority and other civic boards, and for community volunteer work tied to downtown events.
“Now therefore be it proclaimed that I, Robert J. Theiss junior, mayor of the City of Owasso, on the behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Owasso, hereby recognized and thanks Sue for her years of dedicated service to the Owasso community proclaimed this 4th day of November 2024,” the mayor read aloud.
Multiple council members and community members offered tributes after the proclamation. One longtime colleague praised Ocica’s “countless hours of dedication making this community a better place,” and group members presented flowers. Speakers highlighted Ocica’s role in encouraging women’s participation in local government and her presence at community events such as historic home tours and downtown festivals.
The council did not take formal action related to the proclamation beyond issuing the recognition. Council members noted the proclamation as part of the evening’s ceremonial items and moved on to routine business.
