Kennedy said several clusters of homes are complete and listed tentative completion dates for remaining neighborhoods: certain clusters expected in September, others in October and a final set in December. She told the board that permit delays — including high volumes of permit submissions by multiple projects and staffing changes at permitting agencies — had slowed some builds and that Comcast teams were coordinating with utilities such as Jordan Power and AT&T to resolve interconnection issues.
"Total homes passed we've got released to date are 1,831, and total miles built is a 132.95," Kennedy said during her presentation. She also noted the company is working to finalize a right-of-entry agreement with the Talking Rock community board and hopes to open several "lift zones" (Wi‑Fi-enabled public hubs) in partnership with local nonprofits once construction is complete.
Commissioners pressed for more granular follow-up on serviceability for specific addresses that remain listed as not serviceable in county portals. Kennedy acknowledged a handful of recent builds and new addresses can trigger serviceability flags and said Comcast planned to dispatch construction teams to field-verify that service can be provisioned. "We may get someone out this week," Kennedy said in response to a commissioner question about an individual address.
Kennedy also described community partnerships and programming: Comcast hopes to work with the Gordon County Senior Center and the Boys & Girls Club of Calhoun to site lift zones and deliver digital-skills programming through partners such as Inspire EDU.
The county's administrator and commissioners asked staff to coordinate on posting updated maps on the county website and to notify commissioners when field crews plan to visit addresses cited by residents.
The presentation concluded with commissioners thanking Comcast for the update and requesting a follow-up report documenting the permit delays, a short timeline for the remaining houses, and the county-specific map links the company referenced.
