Gordon County Administrator Mister Ledbetter told commissioners that early voting opened today and that county elections staff reported a record turnout of 1,572 voters.
Ledbetter said the county’s cash investment report is included in meeting materials and that the first-quarter spending rate is roughly 27% of the annual budget, slightly above an internal guideline of 25%. "We've spent about 27% of the budget, so we're monitoring that closely right now," he said, and asked department heads to watch expenditures.
Ledbetter also described a recent hearing with the Georgia Department of Audits and Appeals reviewing 2022 property assessments. According to his summary of the state report, auditors indicated the county's fair-market-value ratio was nearer 36%, and the report suggested residential assessments could be 20% below fair market value, agricultural properties 27% below and commercial properties about 7.6% below what the county recorded. Ledbetter said the county will continue the appeal process and expects arbitration to follow.
On capital projects, Ledbetter said procurement work is moving forward on the Ranger Community Center and playground, with requests for proposals under way. He also reported the county received a grant for paper recycling dumpsters and encouraged residents to attend an animal-adoption and supply event on Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The administrator’s remarks were delivered as informational updates; no formal action was taken on budget adjustments or audit strategy during the meeting.
