Senate approves slate of local bills, adopts amendments and sends measures to be engrossed

During the Dec. 9 session the Senate processed a series of local and municipal bills and adopted several amendments before passing measures to be engrossed.
Items read and advanced included: Senate Bill No. 2717 (establishing appointed district clerk and treasurer for the North Raynham Water District); House bills addressing law-enforcement continuity between Boston and Dedham (House No. 2299 as noted on the floor), a waiver of maximum age for Methuen police officers (House No. 2548), designation of an Orleans roundabout in honor of Dorothy Klimtschott (House No. 4484), authorization for Foxboro and Sharon to extend a municipal sewer agreement (House No. 4754 as read), and multiple other municipal measures.
Notable floor action: Senator Durant (Worcester and Hampshire) moved to substitute a new draft for the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School Committee annual-election bill (Senate No. 421), which the clerk read and the chamber adopted. Senator Friedman (Middlesex) presented and secured amendments on bills concerning the appointment of town managers and vacancies in town meetings (Arlington House No. 4026; Burlington House No. 4708), striking and inserting committee-referred language where noted.
