Redevelopment agency approves $25,000 VIP grant for security and landscaping at 419–421 S. 13th Street

The City of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency on Dec. 18 approved a Multifamily Residential Visual Improvement Program (VIP) grant, not to exceed $25,000, for exterior upgrades at two small multifamily buildings at 419 and 421 South 13th Street.
Dina Babski, director of economic and urban development, described the project site as two existing buildings with a total of eight residential units (seven one-bedroom and one two-bedroom) built in the 1950s. She said the grant would fund decorative fencing, an electric gate and landscaping to improve the property and help retain current tenants. “This grant will help our owner and applicant to put decorative fencing, electric gate, and also some additional landscaping improvements,” Babski said.
Felicia Thompson, the applicantrepresentative, said tenant security was a priority: “Providing security to these tenants is, our priority, so this would help do that, and keep our good tenants in our building.” Councilwoman Diaz moved to approve the agenda item; the presiding officer announced the motion carried.
The funding was described as coming from the RDA special revenue fund and capped at $25,000. The board’s approval authorizes staff to execute the VIP agreement and proceed with the improvements.
