The North Canton City Council took multiple procedural and formal actions at its recent meeting.
Council approved meeting minutes from Nov. 18, 2024 and Dec. 2, 2024. It then adopted the second reading of Ordinance 05.25 to accept a 0.13-acre tract from the North Canton City School District as a road right-of-way.
Council suspended rules to consider several items without committee reports and adopted Resolution 06-2025 appointing Steven B. Wilder as the city's representative to the Stark County Council of Governments for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025. The council also adopted the first reading of Ordinance 07-2025 (to increase the municipal income-tax rate from 1.5% to 2%), passed Resolution 08-2025 directing the board of elections to place the question on the May 6, 2025 special-election ballot, and passed Resolution 09-2025 stating council's intention not to seek renewal or replacement of the street-paving, EMS operating and fire suppression operating levies if voters approve the proposed income-tax increase.
The meeting included a motion to enter executive session under Ohio law to discuss confidential economic-development negotiations; a roll call recorded seven yes votes and the council later noted that no formal action was taken during executive session. The meeting concluded with public comment from Pat Patterson, mayoral and departmental remarks, and a motion to adjourn for winter recess.
