The Soda Springs City Council voted to adopt Resolution 2024-4, approving a 4.9% increase in garbage collection rates effective Oct. 1 and changing the city’s billing-service charge from a flat monthly fee to a percentage-based fee of 1.375% of each monthly utility bill.
Council members discussed the rationale for the change, noting MRNE (the provider) requested the increase and the city adjusted its billing fee to cover the administrative convenience of including garbage on the city’s consolidated utility bill. The city manager said the billing fee will net roughly $600 a month for the city under the new calculation.
A disclosure preceded the vote: one councilor stated the provider is a customer of theirs and the councilor abstained. After the abstention, the motion carried. The council documented the motion and the governor of the meeting announced the resolution passed.
