Council approves engineering contract with Jay Thomas Engineering for Jackson Heights revitalization

Sanford City Council on Dec. 17 approved the award of an engineering contract to Jay Thomas Engineering for the Jackson Heights neighborhood revitalization project. Staff told the council the city advertised an RFQ for the CDBG-funded project, received two responses, and a selection committee recommended Jay Thomas Engineering based on local ties and prior experience on similar developments.
"Jay Thomas stood out because of his ties to this community, his experience working within the City of Sanford on similar developments, and his project understanding and technical approach," staff presenter Mary DePena said. Council approved the award by voice vote after a second was offered by Mr. Buckles.
Staff provided the council with the proposal documents and scoring matrix used in the selection; next steps are contract execution and the start of design work under the CDBG program.
