Denham Springs officials accepted the city audit for the year ended June 30, 2024, after a staff presentation that described the report as a draft but indicated no anticipated changes to the numbers.
Luke Gioz, presenting in place of Trey, summarized the auditors' findings: the audit issued a "clean, unmodified opinion" on the city's financial statements, the auditors did not identify material weaknesses in internal control, and the city complied "in all material respects" with requirements for major federal programs. He said the city's governmental activities net position increased by about $4.9 million and business-type activities increased by about $4.0 million, for a combined 2024 increase of $9.4 million.
Gioz also noted a small number of exceptions in required written policies and procedures (items to be updated), an area where deposit timestamping will be improved (stamping checks to show receipt timing), and two instances in which finance charges or late fees were not assessed on tested statements. Council members asked for final PDFs when Trey returns to present the finalized document; staff committed to distribute finalized materials.
After the presentation, Councilmember Dugas moved, and Gilbert seconded, a motion to approve the audit for July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024 "as presented." The council approved the motion on a roll-call vote.
Action items from the meeting include finalizing the audit notes and providing finalized PDF copies to council members when the final statements and notes are available.
