BZA elects officers, notes no new applications and plans to revisit design guidelines

The Prairie Village Board of Zoning Appeals completed routine administrative business, electing officers and reviewing upcoming workload.
Staff reported there are no current applications for the Board of Zoning Appeals or the Planning Commission and reminded members of an application deadline the coming Friday. The clerk noted that, by default, the city clerk would serve as the board secretary.
On nominations, staff said a previously named board member was willing to serve as chair and that one member (Brown) had agreed to serve; a motion to elect the chair, vice chair and secretary was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote.
Board members also discussed the city’s design guidelines. A member recapped prior work on the guidelines, said city council considered the issue worth further discussion, and suggested the board could revisit the guidelines in February if there are no new applications—otherwise the review may be postponed. The board noted that technical staff work will be needed and that the upcoming coordinator of meetings will affect scheduling; the member also referenced that it would be Commissioner James Brenneman’s last Planning Commission meeting.
