The Arkansas City Commission approved a pay-plan amendment that raises city pay rates by a flat 50 cents for all employees and adds a 5% increase on the top end of the pay ordinance to preserve eligibility for merit-based performance increases.
A staff presenter outlined the rationale: the flat 50¢ adjustment is intended as a recruitment and retention measure to help entry-level wages, and the 5% top-end increase ensures employees already at top-of-range remain eligible for merit increases tied to annual evaluations. "It is a 50¢ pay increase to all employees," the presenter said during the discussion.
Commissioners discussed the increase in the context of recent cost-of-living changes and noted prior annual adjustments. The motion to adopt the pay plan to become effective Dec. 14, 2024, was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call vote.
The approved change is included in the adopted budget and will be implemented by payroll staff with the effective date announced by the commission.
