Andover council honors employees and proclaims Andover Central football championship

The Andover City Council opened its Dec. 10 meeting with service recognitions and a school proclamation.
Parks staff member Trevor Unren received a 10‑year service award. A presenter praised Unren’s experience across park‑department roles and commended his character; Unren said, “I appreciate everything you've got done… I think of it as a career. I'm in it for the long haul.”
The council also presented a 15‑year service award to Verne (street department manager), citing his leadership during winter maintenance and his work coordinating debris removal after the April 2022 tornado.
Councilmember Tim Barry read Proclamation No. 881 honoring the Andover Central Jaguars for winning the 2024 Kansas state football championship and proclaiming Dec. 11 Andover Central High School Football Championship Day. Coach Derek Tuttle addressed the council and the players, saying, “It's a lot of emotions. The kids played with a ton of energy today,” and thanked the coaching staff and students.
The presentations concluded before the council shifted to consent and business items.
