Council approved the city’s 2025 workers’ compensation, property and general liability renewals with EMC and VFIS in the total amount of $493,575 after a presentation by broker Lance Spence of USI. Spence told the council that “workers’ compensation is a legal requirement in the state of Kansas,” and said an elevated experience modification driven by losses in the 2021–22 policy term and recent compensation increases contributed to the premium rise; he added the experience mod is expected to decline “probably by 30 to 40%” for the 2026 term. Council voted 5–0 to accept the renewal.
