Pittsburg commissioners reorganize leadership; Don McNay sworn in as mayor

The motion to install McNay as mayor was made by a commissioner and seconded; after the vote McNay recited the mayoral oath, saying, “I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of Kansas and faithfully discharge the duties of mayor for the city of Pittsburg, Kansas.”
Commissioners then debated how the board president should be chosen, with one member arguing for a rotational practice and raising concerns about campaign mailers that affected recent results. The commission ultimately approved a motion to name Doc Sigley president of the board.
Both officer selections were completed by voice votes and formal motions during the meeting. The reorganized leadership will carry forward into the commission’s 2025 schedule and committee assignments.
