Kentwood swears in two new police officers

Police Chief introduced two new Kentwood police officers — Chloe Shafsma and Jacob Whitley — and the commission administered the oath of office during the Dec. 17 meeting.
Chief said Shafsma (from Lockport, Illinois) graduated from Chicago Christian High School and Concordia University Chicago with a degree in criminal justice, served as a non-sworn community service officer and graduated from the GVSU fall police academy on Dec. 5. Whitley (originally from Redlands, California) attended South Christian High School and GRCC, applied after attending a Kentwood recruitment event, and also graduated from the GVSU Police Academy on Dec. 5, the chief said.
The clerk administered the oath; family members joined them at the podium for photographs and commissioners offered welcome remarks and best wishes. The commission did not take any further formal action beyond the swearing-in ceremony.
