Altamonte Springs commission certifies election results, confirms city attorney and approves multiple measures

The Altamonte Springs City Commission on Nov. 19 certified the Nov. 5, 2024 election results for District 4, administered oaths to newly elected commissioners and unanimously approved a slate of routine and substantive items, including confirmation of Mary Snead as city attorney.

In the certification reported by staff, 17,036 ballots were cast in District 4; Bob O’Malley received 10,421 votes and the transcript records 6,615 votes for the other candidate. The commission moved to accept the Seminole County canvassing board’s results and approved the certification by voice vote.

The commission administered the oath of office to the newly sworn commissioners and then selected a vice mayor by motion and unanimous voice vote.

On personnel actions, the commission voted unanimously to confirm Mary Snead as city attorney, effective Dec. 1, 2024, and directed the city clerk to administer her oath. Snead took the oath during the meeting.

In other routine actions, the commission approved a LYNX 2024–2025 funding agreement and the city’s top 10 work priorities for 2024–2025. The body also approved four finance items that included a single-source procurement for Neptune water meters and two contract awards for work at the regional water reclamation facility. All motions passed unanimously by voice vote.

The meeting concluded after a retirement resolution and tributes to James A. “Skip” Fowler, who was honored for 45 years as the city’s attorney; Fowler accepted the recognition and offered closing remarks before the meeting was adjourned.

Votes recorded in the transcript were unanimous on all matters called for a formal vote during the meeting.
