Board OKs $698,817 Track Resurfacing Contract at Basha High School

The Chandler Unified School District Governing Board approved a contract Dec. 11 to resurface the track at Basha High School, which was built in 2003 and has numerous cracks and asphalt base failure.
Facilities staff recommended contracting with FieldTurf USA through an existing cooperative (GPA) contract for $698,817.35. "Basha was built in 2003. The track is original. Surface has large multiple cracks. The asphalt base has failed and needs to be replaced," said the presenter, Mister Dunn, who recommended awarding the work to FieldTurf USA under the stated contract amount.
Board members asked about warranty and longevity. The presenter said the rubberized surface typically carries a seven-year warranty, and with proper maintenance a rubber surface can provide roughly 10–15 years of service. He described a phased construction plan to remove and replace asphalt and then apply polyurethane and rubber topcoat to be timed around athletics schedules so the track is ready for the spring season.
After questions about comparative costs and scheduling, a motion to approve the contract was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
