Yelm superintendent says Pierce County will run district’s February ballot; district will notify Thurston County voters

The district has been coordinating with Thurston County election officials and Pierce County to ensure a seamless process. Staff said the primary drivers are a Thurston County facilities remodel and cost savings from consolidating ballot services with Pierce County and the Puyallup School District, which will also have measures on Pierce County ballots. Superintendent said the change should not affect voters’ returns: Thurston County residents will still return ballots to local drop boxes or mail them as usual, but mailed materials may arrive with Pierce County branding.
District staff (Terry) will work closely with both counties to produce explanatory inserts, clarify what voters should expect in mailed materials, and provide outreach so Thurston County voters do not mistake the mailer for a ballot from another jurisdiction.
Superintendent emphasized that the decision is an inter‑county administrative arrangement and not a change in voter jurisdiction or ballot ownership.
