Walworth County 4‑H reports enrollment gains, fundraising and program events

Walworth County’s 4‑H Youth Development representative told the Agricultural & Extension Education Committee on Oct. 14 that several program measures are trending up and outlined near‑term deadlines and events.
The presenter said all 4‑H club bylaws are being revised and are due at the beginning of November. The county’s long‑running fundraiser, known as the House of Pork (Hop), continues to underwrite programming costs such as 4‑H camp and Clover University classes. The shooting sports program showed growth during the summer, and Explore 4‑H Night—an open house to recruit families—drew approximately 114 youth and about 219 total participants (presenter described these as approximate counts based on returned cards and registration).
On enrollment, the presenter reported year‑over‑year increases for 2023–24: general enrollment up 5.4%; first‑year member enrollment up 4.4%; first‑generation membership up 5.3%. The presenter said a reimagined awards reception is under way to engage more youth and volunteers in program recognition.
Committee members praised the enrollment figures and noted that growth is notable given national declines in small farms and traditional agricultural participation.
Next steps: bylaw revisions are due for club approvals in November; staff will continue reporting enrollment and event outcomes at future meetings.
