Historic preservation commission raises concerns about truck traffic, flood mitigation and litter

During miscellaneous business the Historic Preservation Commission addressed multiple neighborhood concerns that could affect historic resources and public safety.

McGregor Boulevard truck traffic: Commissioners reported frequent dump-truck traffic on the recently restored brick portions of McGregor Boulevard. Staff replied there is no city ordinance currently prohibiting trucks on the public road and that transportation staff and the city attorney were exploring options. Commissioners requested an update at the next meeting and discussed recommending an item to City Council.

Dean Park flood-mitigation and design guidance: Commissioners and neighborhood representatives discussed a consultant/FEMA report outlining three design options for elevating homes in Dean Park. Staff agreed to circulate the report to commissioners and consider a workshop so residents and the commission can discuss neighborhood-level design guidance, the pros and cons of raising homes on stilts or terracing, and the implications for the district's historic character.

Code enforcement and litter: Commissioners described ongoing problems with bulky trash, cardboard and abandoned items along public rights-of-way, notably on McGregor Boulevard. They asked staff to relay continued complaints to code enforcement and to consider stronger citation and outreach strategies.

The commission agreed to follow up at future meetings after staff circulates the Dean Park document and returns with any progress on truck restrictions and code-enforcement options.
