CRA staff report progress on West Main, Jackson, Pace and Cervantes street projects

CRA staff briefed the board on several transportation and streetscape projects. West Main Street Corridor Management is roughly 60% designed; staff expects design plans in January and aims to present to city council and CRA in March. A board member said the city council has approved nearly $7 million for the project and described planned drainage improvements, including upsizing pipes and creating an outfall to relieve flooding affecting around 1,600 households.
The reimagined Jackson Street transportation plan was approved by the CRA in August but staff said funding has not yet been secured; the reconnecting communities grant application was not successful and plans may be adjusted to match available funding. Pace Boulevard Corridor Management is in negotiation with the TPO, city and county; staff said the TPO is expected to be the primary funder and the corridor management plan will build on the CRA’s redevelopment plan.
Staff also reported the city received a federal transportation grant to redesign Cervantes Street; the transcript identifies this as a USDOT grant (transcribed as 'USCOT') totaling about $5,000,000 focused on pedestrian and bicycle improvements between V Street and the bridge. Caitlin is the project manager; staff said a contract is pending and that other public works engineers will cover the project during Caitlin’s leave if necessary.
Other items included A Street streetscape work handed to engineering to analyze curb cuts/driveways and restriping, and a Garden Street beautification project removed from active status due to cost concerns.
