Nueces County Commissioners back expanding GoMESA funding for coastal resilience

Nueces County Commissioners voted March 11 to support expanding revenue sharing under the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GoMESA), a federal program that provides funds for coastal restoration, resiliency and related projects.
Judge Canales urged support for tripling current revenue sharing, noting Texas received about $46 million from GoMESA last year and that Nueces County’s share was $614,486. He said increased revenue sharing could meaningfully fund flood control, wetlands restoration, water‑quality improvements and community resilience projects along Texas’s coast.
The court approved a resolution encouraging Congress and the president to support increases to GoMESA funding. Judge Canales said county staff would prepare an op‑ed and coordinate with federal partners and that constituents should contact their U.S. senators in support of the effort.
