Nueces County approves tri‑party bridge repair, right‑of‑way cleanup and beach safety agreements

County staff and Robstown officials described the County Road 36 bridge repair as a collaborative project among the county, City of Robstown and Drainage District No. 2. Flatiron/Dragados donated box culverts to the project; the total estimated cost is $266,000, with the county’s share roughly one‑third and capped at about $88,000. Presenters estimated the project could finish in about two months and credited interagency cooperation with reducing cost and schedule.
On County Road 73, Public Works staff reported a concrete structure and rock obstruction occupying the county right‑of‑way and said certified notices to the owner produced no response. The court approved removal and indicated crews would fill a reported hole (described by a resident as about 6 feet deep and more than 10 feet across) and restore the right‑of‑way.
The court also authorized county staff to pursue a nonmonetary beach maintenance swap with the City of Corpus Christi to reduce patchwork jurisdictional maintenance (the city would assume maintenance of 0.7 mile at Newport Beach while the county would assume a comparable stretch south of Bob Hall). Separately, interlocal agreements with the City of Corpus Christi and the City of Port Aransas for lifeguard services (budgeted in the county’s operating plan) and a related Padre Valle Park designation were approved by the court.
Commissioners described the set of actions as steps to improve safety, efficiency and regional cooperation and said schedules for ribbon‑cuttings, interim maintenance and further coordination would be announced as projects progress.
