Nueces County approves 2020 contract with Synacor Foundation; provider outlines expansion plans

Nueces County Commissioners approved a 2020 contract on March 11 with Synacor Foundation (the organization that now includes Charlie’s Place Recovery Center) to support inpatient substance‑use treatment and recovery services.

Amy Rhodes Granberry, vice president of Synacor Foundation, and Courtney Schroeder, local facility director, updated the court on services delivered in fiscal year 2019. They said Synacor received just over $3,000,000 in state funding to support indigent care and that county contributions covered approximately 14% of Synacor’s required cash match. Commissioners approved the contract by voice vote.

Courtney Schroeder reported that the facility served a wide age range, described demographic highlights (largest age group 35–44) and noted a 30% increase in amphetamine usage among clients. She described a new two‑year long‑term therapeutic community program that the facility launched in mid‑2019 and said Synacor has a pending state application to expand its facility by 100 beds (current bed count described in the presentation as about 100–155 and a proposed 100‑bed expansion was noted).

Judge Canales and commissioners praised Synacor’s work and noted its role in the county’s opioid task force. The court asked Synacor to provide updated financials to match the county fiscal year; Synacor agreed to supply those to county staff.

The court approved the 2020 contract (county share reflected in staff comments and motion) and directed staff to process the contract and return financial alignments as requested.
