Raytown board hears construction and facade plans for high school performing arts center, new auxiliary gym and multiple facades

Mister Husted outlined progress at Raytown South High’s performing arts center: floors are being polished, lights and rigging are installed, drywall and acoustic work are advancing, and interior finish work (casework, ceiling tile) is underway. "We are looking for the 3rd week of December as a completion date," he said. Adjacent work on the new auxiliary gym has foundations and footings poured and CMU block walls started; Husted said he expects that work to be complete by mid‑July (completion year not specified in the presentation).
Architect Sandy Cochran (Hollis and Miller) presented facade concepts for several secondary schools. Key elements include new metal-panel canopies and internally lit signage at Raytown High (three entry points), a large blue-jay emblem on a second-story wall to reinforce school identity, replacement or repair of deteriorating concrete stairs, and new lit signage and better visitor wayfinding. At South High, Cochran described a dark-gray metal-panel aesthetic with red underside accents to reflect school colors and an ad-alternate to repaint EIFS exterior facades. At middle schools Cochran proposed expanded covered footprints and seating areas so students can gather outside safely.
Cochran stressed security and wayfinding benefits of better-lit entries: "We're doing a cantilevered metal panel again... with it being fully lit so it'll help with some security on both of those entry points." The board and superintendent noted positive student reactions to the renderings.
The presentation included scope-items (canopy removal and replacement, new signage, stair repairs, expanded walkways) and next steps for bidding and construction sequencing. No formal board action was required at the meeting beyond receiving the update.
