The Senate completed routine business, including the adoption on introduction of JRS 40 and subsequent adoption of JRS 38 (providing for a joint assembly to elect the acting inspector general) and JRS 39 (establishing the election procedure for two legislative trustees of the Vermont State Colleges Corporation). All three joint resolutions were read and adopted by voice vote on the floor.
The chamber also heard the first reading of H.599, an act relating to retroactively reinstating 10 V.S.A. § 6081(b), and referred that bill to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy. Senators used the remaining time for announcements: committee meeting times for Government Operations, Education, Agriculture, Health & Welfare, Economic Development, Judiciary, and the Public Health caucus were announced, and the presiding officer reminded members about a joint assembly at 1 p.m. for the governor's budget address.
A motion that the Senate 'stand in the journal' until Wednesday, January 24 at 1 p.m. passed by voice vote.
