The Plan and Zoning Commission approved two items on the consent agenda on Dec. 5.
Item 1: A request from Asokamira Arkaka Buddhist Society for property at 4211 East 38th Street to amend Plan DSM future land use from low density residential and parks/open space to public/semi‑public and to rezone the property from N (neighborhood) and Flood District to P2 public civic and institutional district to allow an assembly/place of worship use. The commission left the item on consent after no audience or commission member requested removal.
Item 2: A request from the Des Moines Independent Community School District for review and approval of a public hearing site plan for the North High School track and field at 615 Holcomb Avenue and a Type‑2 design alternative to waive installation of a priority‑1 sidewalk identified in the city transportation master plan. No commissioners pulled the item for separate consideration; the consent vote recorded one abstention on item 2 (Chair noted 'Laura' would abstain).
Both items were considered approved as presented and will move forward according to normal processing and, where required, to City Council review.
