Organizers told Hamilton City Council on Oct. 9 that the city’s first Hamilton Hispanic Festival, held Sept. 28, highlighted Latino culture, brought local businesses and nonprofits to Market Street and attracted families despite inclement weather.
The presenter said the festival included live music, dance performances and a mariachi band and sought to provide new economic opportunity for Latino‑owned small businesses. "We celebrated Latino culture and the contributions we have had in this community," the presenter told council, and added that the event “showed ... the Latino community left Market Street feeling not only proud to be Latino, but proud to be Hamiltonian and American.”
Organizers thanked city departments (police, fire, infrastructure and health), the Hamilton Community Foundation, the chamber of commerce and community volunteers for logistical support and early grant funding. Councilmembers praised the event’s family atmosphere and said it built trust between government and a growing Latino population.
What happens next: organizers asked for continued city support and for council and the new city manager to help expand programming and outreach, particularly in the Jefferson neighborhood. Councilmembers expressed support and encouraged future collaboration.
Quote: "We hope to make this event bigger and better every year," the presenter said.
