RC club asks Hamilton to help pave Joyce Park runway after repeated repairs

Club representative Greg Gerard said the club has maintained a flying site there since the 1970s but faces sinking spots and depressions — described as wells or burial-site remnants beneath the field — that have required repairs three times in the past five years at about $10,000 to $11,000 each. Gerard asked the city to pave a different stretch of the runway (estimated at approximately $30,000–$40,000) where subsurface depressions are not present. The club offered to pay for paving materials and reported $11,000 in the club treasury toward the project, and requested city equipment, purchasing power and public-works manpower to complete the work.
City staff agreed to have infrastructure personnel contact the club to explore collaborative options and next steps.
Next steps: Infrastructure staff to meet with the Hawks RC Flying Club, review site constraints and provide recommendations on whether city paving and in-kind support can be provided and at what cost.
