Hamilton City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 25 to approve an emergency ordinance authorizing the city manager to execute a master lease with Bloomfield Shawn Investments LLC for three parcels at the former Schuler Benninghaufen facility.
City Manager Craig Boonkite and council described the lease as part of a larger neighborhood-revitalization strategy in partnership with the Hamilton Community Foundation and Butler County Port Authority. Boonkite said the agreement leverages community partners and private-sector tools to spur economic development and drive redevelopment in targeted areas.
Council approved the emergency ordinance after suspending the three-reading rule and adopting the measure by roll-call vote (7–0). Council members requested a more comprehensive update on the status and ownership of adjacent parcels and indicated staff would prepare a detailed report.
Next steps: city staff to finalize lease documents, report on timeline and expected public benefits, and coordinate with partner organizations on redevelopment steps.
