Butler County seeks approval for $25 million joint 911 and coroner facility; county projects 100 staff positions

Don Dixon, Butler County commissioner, presented a proposal for a joint 911 dispatch center and Butler County coroner facility on property zoned OPD at 1800 Princeton/Preston Road. Dixon described a facility he characterized as "state of the art," estimated construction costs "about $25,000,000," and said the project would start with approximately 100 employees and could eventually consolidate dispatch services countywide.
Dixon said the design team has accommodated the security and window restrictions typical for 911 dispatch centers and noted the facility's exterior will use brick compatible with adjacent county buildings. He added the county has planned for connectors to nearby roads and expects stakeholders (including the local school district) to participate in planning. "It will be a first-rate facility and design," Dixon said.
Council members asked about the fate of existing properties used for dispatch and the morgue; Dixon replied that existing facilities will be interfaced into the new building and that the county is coordinating with landlords and interim arrangements. The public hearing was closed by motion of Vice Mayor Pullman and second by Council Member Ryan; no vote on final approval took place at the meeting because the item remained at public hearing/first-reading stage.
The presentation included projected economic impacts (construction-phase jobs and ongoing operations) and an invitation to council and residents to attend a future groundbreaking or tour when construction begins.
