Coconino County honors six long-serving employees, including Sheriff Driscoll and county officials

At its Dec. 17 special session the board recognized six retiring employees for a combined 136 years of service, including Sheriff Jim Driscoll (50 years), former County Attorney Bill Ring, Judge Kathleen Nichols, Recorder Patty Hanson, Public Defender Sandy Diehl and Emergency Management Director Wes Deason.
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors used the evening portion of its Dec. 17 meeting to recognize six long-serving county employees who are retiring.
County staff introduced honorees and summarized their service: Sheriff Jim Driscoll was recognized for 50 years with the sheriff's office; former County Attorney Bill Ring was praised for his legal leadership and institutional knowledge; Judge Kathleen Nichols was honored for decades of judicial service; Recorder Patty Hanson was recognized for her work on elections and native-voter outreach; Public Defender Sandy Diehl was honored for revitalizing the public defender's office over 30 years; and Emergency Management Director Wes Deason was commended for leadership during multiple wildfires, floods and the COVID response.
Speakers from departments and board members offered remembrance and gratitude. Commander Kathy Allen and Sheriff-elect Brett Axland introduced Sheriff Driscoll; County Attorney Ammon Barker and Deputy County Manager Lucinda Andreani spoke about Bill Ring; Judge Ted Reed introduced Judge Kathleen Nichols; Donna Cast and Patty Hanson discussed elections leadership; Jennifer Stock introduced Sandy Diehl; and Tim Carter introduced Wes Deason. The recognitions included short remarks by each retiree and a photo opportunity with refreshments in the lobby.
Also during the meeting the board adopted a proclamation declaring 2025 a year of "peace, hope and progress" for Coconino County. The board adjourned at 6:35 p.m. and invited attendees to refreshments and photos.
