Planning commission unanimously recommends rezoning Pratt parcel for daycare use

The West Jordan City Planning Commission voted unanimously Dec. 17 to recommend that the City Council rezone a single parcel near 6200 South and Dixie Drive from A5 (agriculture) to CG (general commercial) to allow a daycare or preschool.

City planner Megan told commissioners the property is 0.81 acres, north of Reams, and contains an existing building that has operated as an office since the parcel was annexed in 1981. Megan said the applicant does not propose changes to the site or building and that rezoning to CG would allow daycare as an administrative conditional use. "Their intention is to do a daycare or preschool there," Megan said during her presentation, and staff concluded the request conforms to the future land use map, which shows neighborhood commercial for the area.

After the presentation the chair opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke either in person or online. Commissioner Allen moved for a positive recommendation to the City Council based on the staff findings and evidence presented; Commissioner Gonzales seconded. The commission voted "Aye" on a unanimous voice vote. The motion recorded the parcel as being rezoned from A5 to CG and passed without opposition.

Two parcel-size figures appear in the record: staff repeatedly described the site as 0.81 acres during the presentation, while a motion statement referred to the parcel as 0.181 acres. The commission's vote was a recommendation only; the rezoning now goes to the West Jordan City Council for final consideration.

The City Council will schedule the item for a public hearing and final action; the planning commission's staff report and the commission's recommendation will be included in that Council packet.
