Chancellor Lawrence Alexander told the Board of Regents that the University of Michigan Flint recorded a 6.5% increase in fall enrollment (to more than 6,500 students), with graduate enrollment up about 10% and transfer enrollment rising nearly 25%. He also reported a $3.9 million HRSA grant to expand nursing workforce training and said the campus master plan — prepared with SmithGroup — is complete and ready for presentation to the campus community.
Student government president Logan Lapine delivered a report describing governance and staffing turbulence at Flint (several leadership changes and interim positions), concerns about program closures and the transformation project, and acute student challenges including food and housing insecurity and longer time to degree completion. Lapine urged the regents and President Ono to invest resources in Flint, treat the regional campus as distinct from Ann Arbor, and collaborate with Chancellor Alexander on proposals.
Chancellor Alexander framed the enrollment gains and master plan as momentum for campus growth and emphasized partnerships that prepare students for careers in high‑demand fields. The board acknowledged the student remarks and said it would work with campus leadership on proposals coming forward.
What’s next: The campus master plan will be presented to the Flint community and the board will continue reviewing transformation project proposals and funding requests.
