Riverview students showcase forensics, student government and Girls in STEM; trustees highlight high extracurricular participation

Students and staff from Riverview Middle School presented a ‘Panther Spotlight’ highlighting strong extracurricular participation across the school.
Student leaders introduced themselves — Aliyah Fisher, student council vice president; Ava Schad, student council president; and Corbin Deppias, who performed in the school musical — and described their roles. Aliyah said forensics has helped her confidence and public-speaking skills: “Forensics is a program that allows students to develop argumentative speech writing, auditorial, and performance skills that you need to be successful inside and outside school.”
Advisors noted program scale: forensics currently has 29 students, student council 95, and district presenters said overall fall offerings attracted about 490 participants out of a school population of approximately 557, indicating roughly 70–75% student engagement in extracurriculars. Crystal Gunther and Rachel Moore described Girls in STEM as a free monthly program for grades 5–8 that includes robotics and coding activities and aims to expose girls to STEM opportunities.
Board members praised the high participation and described extracurriculars as contributing to student belonging and retention beyond regular school hours. The board thanked students and staff and wished them well for upcoming events.
