Box Elder County commissioners approved a slate of administrative and land-use items during their meeting.
Appointments and annexations: The commission unanimously approved two library-board appointments (Eva Peterson and Kelly Ward Kunzler) and consented to three Willard City annexation "islands" allowing parcels to be added to Willard (motions passed). County counsel clarified the commission was consenting only to island creation under state statute 10-2-402; Willard City had already approved the annexations.
Contracts and public defense: The commission approved contract 2434 to hire a new district-court public defender (Logan Bushell) and interlocal agreement 2435 to participate in a two-year forensic social-worker pilot funded through a grant and administered by Weber-Morgan-Davis counties.
Policy and facilities: Auditors presented an updated fleet policy that the commission adopted with an Oct. 1 implementation date. The commission also approved a special personal-use exemption allowing family members in county emergency vehicles for on-call personnel (fire marshal, sheriff and specified ranks) with required waivers and minimum liability coverage. Buildings and Grounds reported a low bid (~$261,924) from CS Construction for the fairgrounds restroom remodel; commissioners accepted the bid with one abstention and directed staff to proceed.
Road vacation: The commission held a public hearing on the Godfrey Road vacation in the Riverside plat, closed public comment (no speakers) and voted to vacate the 18-foot alley; staff were directed to prepare an ordinance for recordation.
Adjournment: After public comment and the routine warrant register, the commission adjourned.
