Baines announced a nine‑person AmeriCorps crew arriving Jan. 9 to support invasive species removal, painting and trail work; he described it as roughly three full‑time equivalents and said the crew will be housed at the Grey Sparks Activity Center. "Starting on January 9th, we've got an AmeriCorps group coming," he said.
Baines updated the committee on trail projects, noting the Bean Peaks mountain‑bike system has 9.2 miles completed in its first phase and the full plan aims for about 25 miles. He described partnerships with Prescott National Forest, the local mountain‑bike group PIMBA, and state grant funding supporting the work and said the trails are bringing ecotourism attention.
On facilities, Baines said the city hall remodel should complete the first‑floor work in May, allowing council chambers to relocate to the first floor for meetings. He also described recent film production activity in the Granite Dells and credited the fire department and public‑works coordination for permitting and safety support.
Baines closed by noting winter is the season for maintenance projects and that staff is starting budget preparations in January for council approval in June.
